MicroMyco Growers
More than just mushrooms
MicroMyco Growers is an urban mushroom farm and local waste recycling program. Located in downtown Madison, MicroMyco provides a premium product to local businesses and customers through a hyper-local model.
More than just a mushroom farm, MicroMyco is a starting place in the Madison community to implement more mycological technologies in our communities. Mycological education, advocacy and stewardship of our communities are all integral to our goal.
Gourmet Mushroom Farm
First and foremost, MicroMyco is an urban, gourmet mushroom farm. Growing mushrooms in the middle of the city presents a lot of challenges. Location, materials, scale and a lot more were taken into consideration when we opened our growing rooms. Located in the Madison Enterprise Center, MicroMyco grows in just 1400 square feet, in a space that, not too long ago, was an office. Using locally produced waste, simplified technology and a little bit of innovation, MicroMyco can grow oyster mushrooms in a large scale, providing locally produced protein alternatives for our community.
Starting with just oyster mushrooms, as our processes become more refined and our market grows, MicroMyco will begin to grow other gourmet species, including lion’s mane, maitake and king oyster. Check back soon to see what we’re growing.
Foraging
Foraging to provide sustenance is the oldest human activity there is. Foraging for fun is a much more modern invention, but there’s no better way to learn the landscape around you and understand how our ecosystems work (and getting a tasty dinner out of it, too!) MicroMyco sells sustainably, seasonally foraged mushrooms along with our grown varieties. Although they can’t follow our hyper-local model, there are few better ways to appreciate the culinary value of mushrooms outside of foraging. Check our store to see what we’re selling locally today.
Education
Mushrooms do so much more for us as a species and a community than fill up our plates. They are crucial to every agriculture endeavor on the planet, and integral to every type of ecosystem imaginable, yet so few people understand their impact. MicroMyco wants to change that. Classes, workshops, business transparency and general enthusiasm are all part of the MicroMyco model. Educating our community on mycological technologies can help neighbors reduce their own waste, grow their own food and have a better understanding of our world and how it works.
Community
Providing a low-cost, protein alternative to our community is important. Mycological education is needed. Supporting our community is crucial. Our local waste recycling model is designed with our local ecosystem and neighbors in mind. MicroMyco was created with a community intention, to make Madison a better place for people and for nature, in any small way we can.
